Jane Austen – The Visual Encyclopedia: Behind the Scenes of a Creative Journey
Summary
This talk takes audiences behind the scenes of Jane Austen – The Visual Encyclopedia, a beautifully illustrated volume that celebrates Austen’s life, works, and lasting influence.
Structured around three main themes—Jane Austen’s Life, Her Works, and Her Legacy Today—the book blends scholarship with visual storytelling, guiding readers through the places, writings, and global community that continue to bring Austen’s world to life.
Co-authors Claire Saim and Gwen Giret, long-time admirers of Austen, wrote the book together in a spirit of friendship and shared passion. Their collaboration included extensive research in archives and several “Austenian pilgrimages” across England—from Steventon to Chawton—meeting curators, scholars, and fellow enthusiasts along the way.
Since its publication, the book has inspired signings, tea events, and literary gatherings, as well as the creation of the Société Française Jane Austen. More than a reference work, it stands as a heartfelt tribute to Austen’s genius and the enduring community her novels continue to inspire.
