Devoney Looser – Main Speaker

We enthusiastically welcome Devoney Looser, PhD, Foundation Professor of English at Arizona State University and author of The Making of Jane Austen to our first Jane Austen Fest as our main speaker. She is a Guggenheim Fellow and a National Endowment for the Humanities Scholar.

She is also author of The Daily Jane Austen, Jane Austen and Discoveries of Feminism, Rational Creatures: Stirrings of Feminism in the Hearts of Jane Austen's Fine Ladies and five more books - look her up on Amazon.com.

"I grew up in Minnesota, where postage-stamped backyards turned into winter ice rinks using garden hoses, and cold weather brought opportunities to snuggle up and read. Now I live in the desert, near a fantastic roller rink, and I have the privilege of teaching women's writings and the history of the novel to college students. I also have the great good fortune to have a badass roller derby alter ego, Stone Cold Jane Austen. I firmly believe Jane Austen would be okay with that, as I suspect she, like her heroine Elizabeth Bennet, delighted in anything ridiculous"

Welcome! We can hardly wait to hear what you have to say about Jane Austen.
