Sense and Sensibility of beginning Paper Quilling

Presented By Jan Yoshioka

Saturday Class (Beginner)

This "Beginner" 3-hour workshop will teach you the basic techniques of this beautiful old art form using paper strips that are cut, curled and shaped to create designs. Paper quilling is a decorative art, and its origins can be traced back to the 15th Century; it was very popular in England during the 18th century and was considered a "proper pastime" for young women. Quilling is mentioned in both Pride and Prejudice and Sense and Sensibility! It is easy to learn and you will create a beautiful Valentine card to take home.

Jan Yoshioka has been immersed in this beautiful and unique art form for more than 45 years. A self-taught quilling artist, she takes immense pleasure in sharing this very basic and amazingly versatile paper art form. In 2004, her work was featured in Legacy magazine and in November, 2011, Jan was featured on a New York TV station demonstrating the basic techniques. She has taught in Lake Tahoe, various locations in Florida and New York, and currently teaches at the John Campbell Folk School in North Carolina. An accredited member of the North American Quilling Guild, Jan now devotes her time to classroom teaching, private instruction and creating custom designs.
